Testing your Bug out Plan?
For those that plan to stay you would be doing something else..
But, For those that have a bug out plan, gear and locations; have you tested to see how quicky you could get away with everything you plan to take and whoever you would be taking with you??? Some things to look at... Time how long it takes to get everything together packed and rolling... How long and how well it takes to get to your safe spot... How long to set up your new living area and get stuff the way you wanted it or close to it... How does the plan work??? How does the rest or your family or everyon else feel about this??? What would you and or them change to better it??? I realize that traffic and getting fuel might not be able to be correctly simulated... You might try leaving in peak rush hour just add a flair of traffic, but realize if you leave in the midst of it, it will be worse... If someones done this and took time to record any data on events as they happened I'd like to read it... |

Re: Testing your Bug out Plan?
61 reads and no real responses... I'm supprised...
I'm actually supprised, that with all the talks of preps, B.O.B.s, and preparedness in general and talks of W.W.Y.D. if the Holy S.H.T.F. day comes, I'd thought for sure a few of you would have this all tested and documented or atleast noted to memory for improvments or future usage... Don't get me wrong, this was not a post to put people down as I know I don't have a really good plan myself... I was hoping to learn and start some better planning... Then some testing... |
Re: Testing your Bug out Plan?
QWAK,Been there done that and people who plan/hope to bug out have no real idea how hard it will actualy be!
When I bought my caben and land in 81 I tried to start a servival team that lasted about 18 months because just geting here from the big city (Chicago) was a long hard effort and then dealing with primitive conditions was over welming and totaly exhausting. People who were usualy happy got short tempered and angry, some did realy stupid things because they were just doing it as a LARK and a WHIM and saw it as some sort of adventure vacation NOT real preperation for a real emergency situation. As far as I am concerned the "Bug Out" plan is a very poor plan and one which is most likely to FAIL, far too many things to go wrong and so many that just can not be planed for and when they do happen all planing goes out the window and it turns in to an INSAIN CLUSTER F**K! IF you realy believe that the shit will hit the fan at some point in the future wile you are still alive, then go ahead and MAKE your move NOW! Just DO IT,make it happen ,what ever it takes, change your life stile and start adapting to and LIVING as if it has already happened. You can NOT just change over night after it happens THAT is a PIPE DREAM and what you are smoking has your head not realy THINKING! It has taken me 25 years and wile I am relitively secure I am still working EVERY DAY doing more and geting better prepared and yes it is STILL hard I don't believe it will ever get EAZY. EAZY happens now and then after I have worked very hard and for a wile solk in my home made, wood fired hot tub spa, that is also (in an emergency) a 350 gallon water treatment tank that filters to .2 microns and I put on an old Harry Chapin or Bob Dylan tape and just kick back and relax and begin planing what I will do next! If you are planing to BUG OUT, for get IT, because IT just AINT GOING to HAPPEN and you are just DELUDING your self! The DUCK |
Re: Testing your Bug out Plan?
I've thought about that route smullen.
To me you gonna have to have enough around you to last you thru all the other crazies trying to bug out. Then you can slowly make you move (stealthily), which ain't really buggin is it. If your buggin from nukes or bio-warfare, I would suggest gettin a heavy duty offroad vehicle with a 100 gallon gas tank, harpoon gun, and Grace Jones on the back shooting it. |
Re: Testing your Bug out Plan?
Good points...
I just know I need to be much better prepared... I've got a lot of stuff, but no where I need... Water and Fuel I think are the two most difficult, then food... Even though I rank food just as high on importance... |
Re: Testing your Bug out Plan?
:cool2: I took a different approach..
My bug out property is stocked and ready about 120 miles away. I have nothing to carry but my family and enough weaponry to blast my way through anything less than a major mob. I could walk if I had to...about six days. Two days by bicycle. Two hours by car or truck. I disagree with the wait until the dust settles to make a run for it... If I get the gut feeling TS is going to HTF..I will bug out immediately. If you don't beat the highway mob.... chances are you ain't getting out anyway. Either the military or the sheep stampede will clog the highways beyond hope. The chance of enforced travel restrictions may kill any bug out plan you have in mind. Nope...don't wait for the mushroom cloud or the Black Helicopters... Drop everything on the spot and get outta Dodge amigos...your job ain't going to be your biggest worry. :coolbeer: |

Although mine is not stocked yet, that was my future plan... Have supplies at both locations then if it gets too bad here, and I think we can make the move, go for it... |
Re: Testing your Bug out Plan?
:cool1: Sounds like a plan smullen...
I keep enough at my primary residence to last a good six months in case I am cut off and prevented from traveling. But my bug out has the advantage of wild game, fish, and lots of room to grow my own crop of Dental Floss(Frank Zappa) if and when TSHTF. I might be moving to Montana soon.... :D :D :D |
Re: Testing your Bug out Plan?
Hey Tn...Andy, have you tested your Bug Out plan?
How long does it take you to shut your front gate? |
Re: Testing your Bug out Plan?
Smullen
I have not had a dry run yet. Thats a good Idea. I have been focusing on supplies that are mobil and routes. One route overlooked in our area is the Mississippi. Takeing it would offer some protection from the largest numbers of people and avoid confined area like Hwy. Two of my freinds have Porta-boats. They strap to the top of their campers. Look at a map and see how far down you have to go to head west to you location--just an Idea. Elecvtric-Amish |
Re: Testing your Bug out Plan?
In a situation like this wouldn't you want to turn in your guns immediately and go to the nearest government approved shelter?

Re: Testing your Bug out Plan?
you'd be surprised how many "lake houses" and "cabins" are in fact motivated by secret survivalist sentiments.
in one interesting dwelling on a great lake I've examined, the doc that built it had installed passive solar water heaters, passive solar heating features, serious insulation, and had a 15" thick "bomb shelter" aka windowless basement with ventilation fans and inside access to the well. the guy was a shooter too. this was no shack either-- it was six figures going on seven at the time when he took me through the place -- about 15+ years ago, so you can imagine the appreciation since then. |
Re: Testing your Bug out Plan?
I've canoed faster more dangerous waters.
But the Mississippi is not a pond its got power and currents to deal with that are dangerous. Getting crosswise in a undertow current would spell major problem but they can be avoided and navigated. E-A |

Putting in is fine, We're like 1.5 minutes from a launch ramp on Riverview Dr, right below the Chain of Rock Bridge; Its getting out and getting to where my land is... Its way down HYW 67 (St. Joe St. Park area, one exit before Farmington, HWy 32) back in there... Plus an important part, I don't have a boat... :) But, my longtime best friend and next door neighbor has a 26 footer thats decently fast... If I were to bug out, he'd be with us anyway... He is a crack shot, good at Hand to hand, Mechanics, and anything that needs built... |
